About this team:
Central Staffing is a flexible care resource at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, ensuring continuity of patient care when clinical teams experience staffing gaps. Composed of nurses, patient care assistants, and administrative clerks, the team deploys across inpatient units to support programs ranging from rehabilitation to complex continuing care.

This cross-unit model builds a breadth of clinical experience that's difficult to replicate in fixed positions, allowing float pool members to develop transferable skills across diverse patient populations, care settings, and treatment protocols. Our team is valued across the hospital for our ability to adapt quickly while maintaining quality care standards, being trusted partners to the clinical teams we support. The work we do plays a critical role in maintaining consistent, high-quality care and ensuring patients receive reliable support despite staffing fluctuations.

In this role you will:
  • Provide constant observation of assigned patients, ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Deliver compassionate psychosocial support, fostering a reassuring environment that contributes to the emotional comfort of patients
  • Accompany and assist patients during transfers to external medical appointments
  • Execute patient care tasks under the collaborative direction and guidance of the nursing team to support comprehensive treatment plans
  • Assist patients with active daily living activities, including bathing, toileting, and dressing
  • Maintain accountability by ensuring accurate documentation of care and sustaining ongoing communication with the health care team regarding patient needs
  • Recognize and report early warning signs of escalating high-risk behaviours and initiate de-escalation techniques as required
  • Notify and escalate concerns to the most responsible regulated health professional as per established protocols if patient(s) require assistance, are engaged in potentially unsafe behaviours, or appear to pose a risk to themselves or others
  • Support patient’s nutrition and hydration; maintain awareness of patient nutritional status and dietary restrictions
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements:
Mandatory
  • Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program from an accredited College
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA)
  • CPR (Heartsaver or BCLS), First Aid Certificate
Preferred
  • Previous experience in caring for the elderly and those with chronic complex diseases, medical conditions and
Skills and Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of established Infection Control and Occupational Health & Safety practices and knowledge of body mechanics, and safe lift and transfer practices
  • Basic knowledge of sterility and aseptic technique
  • Basic knowledge of how to meet patient needs and the ability to perform a range of patient care activities with the scope of the role
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated satisfactory job performance and attendance history required

Salary: Minimum - $26.672/hour; Maximum - $29.180/hour
